A Chalked Pour

So if any of you are hooked on Paint/Craft/DIY Videos on insta and facebook you might have come across a resin and acrylic paint pour which looks a little something like this.

Now these are beautifully crafted! But I wanted to do a little experiment to see if I could do this with chalk paint because this means if it can be done with chalk I could potentially use this on a variety of different furniture surfaces . And boy did my experiment pay off !!!

Guys I'm in lurve !! And it took my like a heartbeat to complete (minus the actual time it took me to figure it out) .

So you as per usual you can follow my video but for this one I think you might need to follow my write up this time!

So with a pour there is a specific consistency you need. It needs to generally be tacky

enough to hold, but pourable. Which with chalk paint is slightly difficult because its very thick. So the first goal is to thin it out .

So most of the blogs/videos/tutorials I saw told me to use water as the mixing consistency. This was wrong - I tried twice with water and it failed tremendously. Either you end up using a lot of paint, or its just too runny.

So I ended up using the acrylic pouring medium which I got at PNA on a total whim but this worked like a charm . THe consistency was PERFECT !! And overall I got a totally smooth and beautifully finished project. So the mix I ended up using ( which you can play with - was a general 3 parts paint to 2 parts acrylic pour medium. You'll start seeing as you mix how it becomes smooth and pourable.

Getting to the wood- I coated the top part with a thin white layer - this was still wet when I applied the rest of the paint. When I made a mistake with the other consistencies I would just wipe it off and start off again. So this was redone A LOT.

With pouring the paints I did use two acrylic colours which you can see in the video are much thicker then the chalk colours - they ended up creating a beautiful splitting effect in the paint when it dried . So even mixing mediums here is fine. There really is no rules !! Well not that I learnt from this first experiment . Other then to make sure you get your consistency right.

The one thing I'm extremely impressed with is the finish. The surface is totally flat which is lovely and makes the furniture painter in me even more happier because I can't wait to get my fingers stuck in some of the projects I've had sitting in the workshop!!

To finish it off I reached out to my beloved fellow Granny B fam for some advice which panned out beautifully. Just a simple coat of Armoured varnish sealed this beauty fine .

GUYS- IT REALLY WAS THAT SIMPLE!! And that fine - Pre Warning its super messy . But hell whats a little mess without a good laugh right??

Next time, a glass of vino , some beats, and pour ! Extra pour in this instance me thinks !!
