In the spirit of transformation Tuesday I thought it was only fitting to feature one of our latest little fixer uppers - the dinning chairs. Now With these chairs I did two with a geometric feature and two solid charcoal chairs with rose gold tips.
Now these chairs, well they've seen things . They've been stained, spray painted, scratched, repainted several times, and the list goes on in short they've really seen too much paint for anyone's liking and trust me - you could tell.
Now there's a double lesson in this one - 1) Never over paint, but 2) Never forget to seal paint because if you use white like this it gets dirty like a son of a gun. Now if the paint is thick and lumpy and kinda frumpy (lol) get your fun little stripper out ( the one in the can , not the oh well nevermind) and get cracking because that's where this little tutorial begins .
You can check out the quick version in our little video here , or the full details below with a shopping list at the bottom of this post !

1) Ok so I already hinted at the first step and that's take your chair into a well-ventilated area and paint a layer of stripper on . Leave this for 10-15 mins . You want to make sure you have a pair of chemical repaling gloves when you do this to avoid any burning on the skin.
When its ready you'll see the paint sort of lifts off and bubbles. Start scrubbing off with a wire brush and scrapper . I found using some sugar water in between scrubs also really works.
I found that I found get majority of the paint off of the flatter areas but on the legs I really struggled. So if you don't get it all off but your plan is to paint over it -its ok the next step just follow carefully

2) Sand it down - Sanding is equally going to help get some of the paint off. but the aim here is to feel the chair and get the texture as smooth as possible. Follow this with a wipe down with a damp cloth .
3) Once its dried take some masking tape and tape off the section of the legs you want to dip in rose gold.
4) Taking a clean brush start painting on the chalked paint . Once tried remove the tape and retape just over the line to paint the rose gold.

5) For the pattern find a pattern you like this is the one I used-
Begin taping off the pattern . With the colours just interchange and express and play with the colours. I used four main colours which I list below.
6) Once everything is dried. Take off the tape finish with some armoured varnish and voila !!!
