If you’ve been following our first post, then you know that this upcycle is one that is close to home for us. And this part specifically is the most sentimental part.
So, if you have stained and sanded your item of furniture and its dried or you just want to find out how we did this little geometric modern feature– look no further.
Check out our quick little video feature here, and the full details below. Our custom shopping list you can find at the bottom of this post!
First things first, lets review the things you’re going to need in this step-

You will need a measuring tape, masking tape, Granny Bs Paint, Paint Brushes (12), Paint Brush in Scrubber (2 & 6), Pencil, Eraser, Sharpener, Ear Buds, Turps, and finally a box cutter or scissors.

The first step is measuring out the triangle. You want to start by first taking the measurement of the top of the first figure you want to do – Mine was 18, then the bottom of it, it was also 18. Then Half this (9). So, the centre of each of the triangles is 9. From here you can play with how far you want the triangle to reach. So, I made the points at 6 and 12 on each end.
Once you have made these marks mark off the point of the triangle, and the bottom two shapes (You’ll see in the video). Now the masking tape I used wasn’t the greatest, so I struggled slightly with getting it on). This was also the thinnest masking tape I could find.

Taking your Granny B’s paint and your no. 12 paint brush you’re going to start with your triangle. Then the two second shapes.
For the back legs I followed the same pattern, except I didn’t make triangles. I just painted the whole shape.
Once the shapes have dried you are going to take off the masking tape. If you find any mistakes just take your ear buds, dip them in some turps and rub it off gently.
The final step is to add the Strips of colour with your scrubber brushers. Because these lines are so thin the scrubbers work the best! They make crisp lines and edges.
Here’s the colours I used-
Finally, once everything has dried, and you are happy you’ve touched up any mistakes or anything you might want to amend. Take a clean brush and coat with Armour Varnish (this stuff is magic I tell you)

And there you have it, a modern touch and sentimental touch on an antique piece of furniture.
